Conversion Scholarship/Loan Programs

Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet Scholarship: Must be enrolled in a Kentucky university as a junior, senior, or postgraduate pursuing a course of study of critical need to the department. Must work for the department after completing your degree. Amount varies. Kentucky Nursing Incentive Scholarship: Kentucky resident in an approved nursing program and agree to work as a nurse in Kentucky. For prelicensure nursing programs, must complete at least 15 credit hours per academic year of published nursing program requirements. For graduate nursing program, must complete at least 9 credit hours per academic year of published nursing program requirements. Must maintain a minimum GPA. Amount varies. Applications must be postmarked January 1 to June 1.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Civil Engineering Scholarship: Kentucky resident or high school graduate with ACT of 24 or higher attending or planning to attend the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Kentucky State University, Western Kentucky University, or Kentucky two-year public college. Must major in civil engineering and agree to work for the cabinet one year for each year on scholarship upon graduation. Semester stipends and possible summer employment. KHEAA Teacher Scholarship: Needy Kentucky resident enrolled as a full-time student and seeking initial teacher certification. Juniors, seniors, postbaccalaureate or graduate students can receive up to $6,250 per year ($2,500 for fall, $2,500 for spring and $1,250 for summer). If funds remain, freshmen and sophomores can receive up to $1,575 ($625 for fall, $625 for spring and $325 for summer). FAFSA and an application. To complete the application, register under Zip Access on www.kheaa.com. Log back into Zip Access using your user ID and password and select the Teacher Scholarship Application. You must file the FAFSA in time for KHEAA to receive the results by May 1. The Teacher Scholarship Application must also be certified by May 1.

Minority Educator Recruitment and Retention (MERR) Scholarship: Kentucky resident who is a member of an ethnic minority as defined by the federal government, maintains a 2.5 GPA, declares teacher education as the major area of study and is a full-time undergraduate or graduate pursuing an initial teaching certificate. Up to $5,000 per year. Deadline set by the school.

Osteopathic Medicine Scholarship: Kentucky resident accepted into the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine. Award is equal to the difference between the average amount charged for in-state tuition at the state medical schools and that charged at Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine.
